I have seen their bike upclose before most of PB user (I live in Indonesia), so I simply have more time to figure out how the system work. The AM and DH suspension design basic scheme is quite similar actually. Two linkages to connect the front and the back with rearshock mounting point on the linkages, and lower linkage that rotates on BB shell. The difference is in rear shock mounting point and pivot placement. They said this is to achieve better leverage ratio and axle path for the bikes intended use, which is obvious. As for legal issues, I'm not a lawyer.. But IMHO there are a few instances where bikes with dual linkage are sold in North America/Euro market. Maestro from Giant and VPP from Santa Cruz/Intense are two of them. Heck, basically Spez's FSR design is a dual linkage system too, with a lot longer lower linkage.
